Floating can have many positive effects on the human body, such as relieving pressure on the spine, muscles, and joints. Furthermore, it can support healing processes (whiplash, broken bones, etc.), boost immune function, lower high blood pressure, slow the heart rate, alleviate joint pain, and much more! While floating, your consciousness is freed from all sensory perceptions: no gravity, no awareness of your body’s position, no sounds, no visual stimuli, and no temperature fluctuations.

The “Gold of the Heath”—a culinary specialty of the Lüneburg Heath, Germany’s most important potato-growing region. A good 40 percent of all German potatoes come from here. This healthy tuber has been grown on the Lüneburg Heath since the mid-19th century. The key to the potatoes’ high quality lies in the typical light-colored, loamy sandy soils of the Lüneburg Heath. On the fertile farmland surrounding the heathside town of Bad Bevensen, more than 100 varieties with a wide range of flavors are grown.
At our AS Restaurant Vital, we use exclusively heath potatoes from potato farmer Steep in Oetzendorf. Be sure to try our “Potato Dish of the Month,” which changes every month.
You can also take home a 2.5-kg bag of Heidekartoffeln for just 4.95 EUR.
Six convents are scattered throughout the Lüneburg Heath. They are all Protestant, between 800 and 1,000 years old, and are exclusively women’s convents. During the “Nuns’ War” in the 16th century, the formerly Catholic nuns fought in vain for more than 30 years against Protestantism, which Duke Ernst of Brunswick had imposed on the convents.
The “Lüneburg Monasteries” or “Heide Monasteries” have existed for more than 800 years in buildings that are largely preserved in their original form, featuring the Brick Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. Whether you’re visiting the oldest monastery in Walsrode, viewing the world’s oldest map in Ebstorf, exploring the Medingen Monastery, the Lüne Monastery with its famous textile museum, or the Wienhausen Monastery: Everywhere you go, you’ll be amazed at how well the monasteries have been preserved. The monasteries’ sights and art treasures captivate many visitors each year. Visitors have the opportunity to tour the monasteries during the scheduled guided tour times. Today, single women of the Protestant faith live in a Christian community within the Heide monasteries. Each convent is led by an abbess. The nuns (also known as conventuals) are responsible for caring for the convent’s treasures and guide interested guests through the convent grounds. The history of all the monasteries is long and, in some cases, turbulent. The Protestant faith was imposed on the nuns; at the Medingen Monastery (near Bad Bevensen), they refused to comply and had the Luther Bible—which the local ruler had provided—publicly burned. At Ebstorf Abbey, where the largest map of the world from the Middle Ages hangs, you can clearly see how people viewed the world back then. Jerusalem was the center of the world—even on the map. If you’d like to learn about the cultural history of the Lüneburg Heath, a visit to one of the Heath’s convents should definitely be on your itinerary.
Millions of fine air bubbles and water swirls massage the skin, strands of light flood through the water, delighting the eye with shifting colors, and fragrant bath additives waft up to the nose: The bubbling tub bath in the “Hydroxeur” is a feast for all the senses. At the Jod-Sole-Therme, you can enjoy the relaxing light-bubble bath all to yourself in a private tub. At the Spa & Vital Center of the Jod-Sole-Therme, you can focus entirely on the pulsing and bubbling of the water against your body. It begins at the soles of your feet, travels up your legs and buttocks to your back, all the way up to your neck, and back again—or starts all over. Depending on the treatment goal, the therapist can select from various programs. The Hydroxeur bath cleanses and strengthens the skin. It can also help reduce cellulite, rheumatism, and arthritis, as well as break down small pockets of fat. Book your personal Hydroxeur appointment here.
You will find various toiletries in your room. In case you didn’t bring a toothbrush, disposable toothbrushes with built-in toothpaste are also available. At the front desk, we can provide razors, sanitary pads, and tampons upon request, if needed.
A Physiotherm® infrared cabin is available for free use by our guests at Haus Roseneck (in the basement) and at Landhaus Zum Heidewanderer (on the ground floor). Canoe trips on the Ilmenau are a great recreational activity for all vacationers in Bad Bevensen. Admittedly, when you think of the Lüneburg Heath, canoeing isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. This landscape is more commonly associated with purple-blooming heather and dry sandy soil. But the heath also features numerous waterways that are perfect for canoe trips. In addition to a few heath streams, the Ilmenau is the only river on the heath and thus the most significant waterway in the Lüneburg Heath nature reserve. It flows picturesquely right through the center of Bad Bevensen’s spa park.vvv
The area around Bad Bevensen is particularly well-suited for outdoor excursions. Whether it’s biking, hiking, or Nordic walking—you can enjoy an active vacation here. You can pick up the maps you need to plan your tours and excursions in the Lüneburg Heath at the tourist information office or purchase them here in our online store.
You can pay with all major credit cards. Please also note that if you pay in cash, you’ll receive an immediate discount of 1% of the total amount due.
The Klein Bünstorfer Heide is a protected, idyllic area and a popular destination on the outskirts of Bad Bevensen. The heath bears witness to the long history of settlement in this region: As early as the end of the Neolithic period, but primarily during the Bronze Age (up to 1200 B.C.), the dead were buried in simple wooden or stone structures beneath earthen mounds, along with jewelry, weapons, and other valuable grave goods. One of the largest of these prehistoric burial sites in the Lüneburg Heath is located in the Klein Bünstorfer Heath. There, 59 burial mounds can still be seen today.

The Bad Bevensen Spa Park is wellness for the soul—a green idyll on the banks of the Ilmenau. You sit peacefully on a bench, let the sun caress your skin, feel the breeze, and breathe in the subtle scents of the seasons. Whether it’s a colorful flower bed or a green transition into the gently rolling countryside—there’s plenty of variety here. Organically developed and designed to blend with nature, the approximately 18-hectare spa park is situated directly on the Ilmenau River and encompasses the spa center, the Ilmenau River, and the Rosenbad. This expansive green space, with its old trees, connects the Old Town with the spa district and blends into the floodplain landscape along the Ilmenau River. A “city garden” was established here as early as the mid-1950s.

Lomi Lomi is a traditional Hawaiian massage technique. The body is massaged and stretched over large areas using flowing strokes with the hands, elbows, and forearms, as well as stretching and elongating movements. Intense yet pleasant pressure is applied to the muscles, reaching even the deeper muscle layers. The result: deep relaxation of the body, mind, and spirit, leading to effective and holistic regeneration.

The Lüneburg Heath Nature Park captivates visitors with its natural diversity, featuring heathland, bogs, and the Heidschnucken Trail. The Lüneburg Heath Nature Park is characterized by gently rolling landscapes dotted with juniper bushes and birch trees, as well as bogs, forests, and picturesque heathland farms. Originally, the area of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park was identical to that of the nature reserve. In 2007, the park was expanded and now stretches from Amelinghausen and Melbeck in the east to Schneverdingen in the west. With its unique cultural and natural landscape spanning an impressive 107,000 hectares, it offers a wonderful experience in every season. On clear winter days, the landscape seems enchanted and invites you to take a long hike. It’s just as lovely to cycle or hike here in the spring or fall, for example along the Heidschnuckenweg, which was established in 2012 and can easily be tackled in stages. It’s considered one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Germany. During the heather bloom in August and September, the heathlands glow in a dazzling display. Old sheep pens, stair-step granaries, and beehives catch the eye, and with a little luck, you’ll encounter shepherds with their flocks of Heidschnucken sheep. Here you’ll find more information about places to visit, nature, and the history of the Lüneburg Heath.
The heart of the nature park is the nature reserve between Handeloh, Egestorf, Bispingen, and Schneverdingen. During the season, the area around the small heathland village of Wilsede—including the picturesque village of Undeloh, the Totengrund, and the Steingrund—is bustling with activity. Those who don’t enjoy hiking can take one of the horse-drawn carriages that operate here during the season and hear all sorts of exciting and entertaining stories from the coachmen about the heath and its animal caretakers, the Heidschnucken: “Schnucken” means “to nibble”—the animals graze on the heathland plants, thereby ensuring their healthy growth.
At the Iodine-Brine Spa, you can enjoy a variety of massage treatments. Whether it’s a classic relaxation massage, a Lomi Lomi or Garshan massage, or a hot-stone massage—you’re sure to find the wellness experience that’s right for you. The feeling of weightlessness during a floatation session or drifting off to sleep in the Hydroxeur are also experiences that leave a lasting impression. We’d be happy to make reservations for you. Just give us a call or put together your own wellness program right here. We recommend booking your desired treatments well in advance.

Right next to the nearby Rosenbad is the mini-golf course and the pedal boat rental. The course is a classic 18-hole miniature golf course. You can find the opening hours and prices here.

For noticeably softer skin: In the Arabic hammam, “rasul” refers to healing clay, and that’s where this wellness bath originates—now brought to the Lüneburg Heath. So you, too, can embark on a journey to the oases of indulgence from *1001 Nights* at the Spa & Vital Center. To begin your journey to the Orient, you’ll apply various healing clays—enriched with precious natural sesame oil—to your body like mud and settle comfortably into a seating niche in the Rasul bath. The room slowly begins to warm up, and the air is pleasantly scented. The mineral-rich clay cleanses your skin deep into the pores and supplies it with valuable minerals and trace elements. This treatment not only removes dead skin cells but also firms the subcutaneous tissue, positively influences muscle tone, and stimulates your metabolism. After about twenty minutes, a lukewarm shower of water cascades down over you. Now gently rub off the healing clay (exfoliating effect) and finish the Rasul bath with a shower. Book your personal Rasul healing clay appointment here.
Smoking is not permitted inside the accommodations. Ashtrays are available for your use in the outdoor areas, on the terraces, and on the balconies.

Bad Bevensen is an excellent starting point for hikes through the Lüneburg Heath. On well-marked hiking trails through the flat landscape, hikers pass through deciduous and coniferous forests, the winding valley of the Ilmenau River, the Elbe Side Canal, and the Klein Bünstorfer Heath, as well as vast fields and small villages. The fragrant scent of the forest, the birdsong, and the gently flowing Ilmenau River—all this and more ensure that you can truly unwind while hiking. The routes were originally designed as Nordic walking trails and are therefore signposted accordingly. If you’d like, simply grab one of our free Nordic walking poles (available in the entrance area) and walk the trails—it’ll get your heart and circulation going, and this gentle sport is easy on the joints, too.
